This October 1st, on International Coffee Day, celebrate the world’s favourite beverage with Finland – a nation of true coffee lovers. Did you know Finns drink more coffee per capita than anyone else, averaging 4 cups a day?

As cosy season approaches, discover Finland’s unique coffee culture: from steaming cups of filter coffee paired with cinnamon buns to the cherished kahvitauko (coffee break) tradition. In Finland, coffee isn’t just a drink – it’s a way of life, offering warmth, connection, and comfort as the days grow colder.

Kahiwa, Lahti

Located in the heart of Lahti within the historic Malski building in Lahti, this specialty café and artisan bakery offers locally roasted coffee alongside freshly baked sourdough bread, exceptional cinnamon buns, and delicious cakes. Saturdays feature a popular brunch, and there’s also a curated, ever-changing selection of natural wines to enjoy.

Bageri Å, Turku

Bakery Bageri Å is renowned for its high-quality sourdough creations, including freshly baked bread, Finnish pulla (sweet buns), and croissants. A true standout is their sourdough croissants, crafted through a meticulous three-day process. In winter, they also offer special Shrove croissants a unique twist on a Nordic classic. Guests can watch the baking process through a window while enjoying coffee roasted by Frukt Coffee Roasters, located in Kakola, a former prison turned creative hub.

Café Berry, Helsinki

Opened at the end of August, Cafe Berry has quickly captivated visitors with its desserts that resemble real fruits, inspired by global trends. The standout mango pastry, filled with mango mousse and compote and finished with intricate hand-painted details, has become a favourite, drawing crowds to the beautifully renovated café. Alongside these unique treats, the menu features hand-laminated croissants and a curated wine list perfectly complementing the pastries.

The French Café, Kuusamo

Born on a snowy day in Lapland in 2019 and brought to life in 2023, The French Café combines freshly roasted coffee, homemade pastries, and warm hospitality. Inspired by both Finnish and French traditions, the café uses locally sourced ingredients to create a unique blend of cultures in a cosy setting. Pastry chef Moona brings her Nordic roots and French training to life in creations like the signature “Hopea Toffee” salty licorice macaron, while barista Arthur, originally from France, uses his expertise to craft high-quality coffee.
